BAE Systems promotes Engineering Education
Participating at a BAE Systems event
We aim to be the best in our field, and working with schools allows us all to accomplish so much more.
Real partnership with education is important because :
- We can share the excitement and challenge of engineering with young people and teachers so that they can explore opportunities for careers and learning
- Our people can learn new skills in schools
- We want to work together with organisations and Government to develop talented and skilled people in the future.
Our education programme aims to get young people excited about a career in engineering. To this end, we have created a programme which features :
- A network of schools linked to BAE Systems sites around the UK
- An Ambassadors scheme involving employees within local schools to facilitate curriculum based activities
- A dedicated web site for young people, teachers, parents and employees offering a wealth of curriculum based material
- An in-school programme including an exciting theatre performance and practical workshop
- A facility for young people to gain one to two weeks work experience at a BAE Systems site.
Supporting Science, Engineering & Technology Projects
BAE Systems hopes to inspire young people to be the scientists and engineers of the future and supports many national and local education projects in addition to its own education programme for schools
The company is a major backer of the National Science Learning Centre at York in the UK and continues to sponsor the Learning & Skills Council’s Apprenticeship Awards as well as the annual Schools Aerospace Challenge organised by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers.
