The Big Bang
UK Young Scientists & Engineers Fair
BAE Systems is delighted to announce its support for The Big Bang - the UK's largest ever national science, technology and engineering fair for young people and teachers.
The inaugural Big Bang will be held at the QEII Centre in Westminster during National Science Week on 4 - 6 March 2009 and will attract around 10,000 people. The company is committed to sponsoring the fair in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
Visitors will be treated to a host of interactive science exhibits, theatre, workshops and events which represent the very best of British science, engineering and technology. BAE Systems will be showcasing some of its robotics and autonomous vehicle technologies as well as running engineering-focussed theatre events for young people based on the company's successful schools roadshow programme.
The Big Bang represents a landmark as it is the first time that so many technology-based organisations and institutions have joined together on a nationwide project to promote science and engineering. BAE Systems and Shell are lead sponsors of The Big Bang, working alongside dozens of partners including the Department for Innovation, Universities & Skills, Department for Children, Schools and Families, The Royal Academy of Engineering, Engineering & Technology Board, The Royal Aeronautical Society, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
Dick Olver, Chairman of BAE Systems said: "Education projects are extremely important to the long-term sustainability of our business and our ability to recruit talented people. The Big Bang gives Government, industry and engineering institutions alike a really exciting opportunity to work together and inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and technologists in the UK."
