Ground Support Segments
Mission Support System (MSS)
The MSS supports AEW&C crew planning and preparation, briefing and debriefing, analysis and data transfer. Thus enabling planning for pre, post and training missions.
Operational Mission Simulator (OMS)
The OMS is an operational realistic representation of the Aircraft Mission Crew environment. It is a fixed base trainer whose primary purpose is training of AEW&C crew in th operation of Airborne Mission Segment equipment. The major functions of the OMS are training, mission support, debriefing, training development/lesson planning and data preparation.
AEW&C Support Facility (ASF)
The ASF provides the environment for major software and minor hardware enhancements to the AEW&C System, Segments and key sub-systems for their design, test and evaluation.
Airborne Mission System Segments
Electronic Warfare Self Protection (EWSP)
The EWSP manages reports from its own sensors, and the detection reports from both the ESM and the Mission Computing System to form a "situational awareness picture". It uses the "situational awareness picture" to identify and implement countermeasures as required by the loaded pre-flight message.
Electronic Support Measures (ESM)
The ESM is a passive surveillance system which provides a picture of the electromagnetic environment. It detects, identifies, correlates, locates and tracks emissions over a wide range of frequencies and provides this information to the Mission System for merging with other sensor data. The ESM also provides the AEW&C aircraft with a threat warning capability.
Our Capabilities in Mission Planning & Support and Simulation & Training underpin the Ground Support Segments.
The Airborne Early Warning Segments are supported by the Electronic Warfare capability provided across several Divisions within BAE Systems Australia.
