Networked Enabled Capability (NEC), underpinned by rapid information dissemination, robust connectivity and advanced decision support has transformed the maritime battlespace.
We are at the forefront of systems development in the maritime domain. We offer commonality across the fleet and considerable operational benefits - such as improved use of new and future assets to improve front line capability and optimise support and logistics through-life.
We are a key player in the UK’s Type 45 and European Horizon programmes, contributing radar, combat management and data transfer, electro-optical gun control, meteorological and data link communication systems.
We have been down-selected as preferred supplier for the Maritime Composite Training System (MCTS) programme that will deliver the Royal Navy with a new shore based Warfare Operator Training Capability.
In the export arena, we offer a family of integrated maritime systems to different classes of vessels as well as training and support.
Our considerable maritime experience is a key enabler in the coherent employment of the maritime force as a synergistic entity.
Across the maritime environment we provide a comprehensive range of specialist equipments, supported by unparalleled domain knowledge and integration skills. These include:
JCS(Log) Maritime
Designed to provide a comprehensive maritime Command and Control capability which provides influence over the battlespace. It is a typical example of our command and control systems, providing effective defence in depth by integrating available surveillance systems with maritime platforms.

CMS-1
A high performance, fully scalable combat management system, it is suitable for the majority of maritime warships. CMS-1 supports planning, tactical picture compilation, tactical decision-making, along with sensor and weapon control. The infrastructure allows the integration of third party applications to further enhance system capability.

Mine countermeasures
We have been supplying advanced mine countermeasure (MCM) capabilities for over 30 years. Our MCM command and control systems make full use of the latest industry hardware and proven operational software. Customers benefit from a complete tactical system able to satisfy the most demanding mine warfare requirements.

Underwater capability
We have supplied submarine command and fire control systems to the UK Royal Navy and other forces for over 35 years. Our Submarine Control System (SMCS) is installed in the Swiftsure and Trafalgar class boats.
The Astute class nuclear attack submarine benefits from being equipped with the our Astute Combat Management System. The Submarine Control System Next Generation (SMCS NG) now offers revolutionary capability for submarine combat systems, based on commercial software developed by us for our Type 45 Combat Management System.
We provide a fully integrated logistic support service. This complete package of engineering and manufacturing services includes:
- Commissioning
- Post-design support
- Configuration management
- Spares
- Repairs
- In-water performance analysis
Submarine Command System Next Generation (SMCS NG)
SMCS NG is the latest evolution of the highly successful SMCS used in all the Royal Navy’s submarines. It migrates the command system’s functionality onto a hardware independent, open system architecture built on COTS technology. SMCS NG is already in operation on over half of the submarine fleet.
NAUTIS
Nautis is a versatile command and weapon control system. A single Nautis console will fulfil the requirements of smaller warships. In larger systems, multiple Nautis consoles are networked to provide fully distributed processing with database replication at each console. This system is in service with major navies all around the globe.
NECTA
To maximise the effectiveness of sonar deployments, particularly in complex littoral environments, it is essential to have the ability to predict sonar performance across the full range of operational conditions. The NECTA system provides an innovative solution to this requirement. It can be used as an integrated sonar deployment aid, as a tactical aid or in environmental impact assessments.
Marine Environmental Risk Management Capability (ERMC)
The ERMC system provides an automated solution for assessing the potential impact of underwater noise on marine fauna, allowing environmental risks to be quickly assessed, refreshed and mitigated at sea - even as the scenario changes.
Sea Wolf Mid Life Upgrade (SWMLU)
Our involvement with the Seawolf missile system extends back to the 1960s when the Royal Navy issued a requirement for effective hard kill protection of maritime vessels against the anti-ship missile threat.
Seawolf has been the principle point defence system for the Royal Navy since it came into service in the late 1970s.
In recent years, anti-ship missile threat has evolved considerably, creating a need to update the system accordingly. This is the basis of the SWMLU requirement.
The contract covers: weapon system design, sensor design, sub-contractor management, sensor integration, weapon system integration, performance modelling and system trials up to ship level.
SAMPSON
SAMPSON is the multi-function radar selected for the Royal Navy Type 45 Destroyers.
The SAMPSON radar combines the roles of surveillance and dedicated tracking into one single system. The radar fully meets the performance needs for the next generation of maritime defence systems.

Maritime Medium Range Radar (Radar T996 Replacement)
The UK MOD has a requirement to significantly upgrade the radar surveillance capability of most of the Royal Navy's major surface warships.
The intention is to provide the Fleet with a 3D maritime Medium Range (Surveillance and Target Indicator) Radar system that will have greater functionality, improved performance and increased operational availability over that provided by Radar Type 996 in its current form.
Maritime Training
In the maritime environment, we have provided the majority of the UK Royal Navy’s operational training needs for more than 30 years.
