Security Clearance
Why is security clearance needed if I am offered a position?
BAE Systems makes a vital contribution to the products and services used by the UK armed services and as such people working on many of our programmes are required by our customer to be personally cleared to national security standards.
The level of security clearance needed varies according to the area of the business where people work. In general, a 'Basic Check' clearance is all that is necessary, and this requires recent employment and character references, verification of identity and completion of a Criminal Convictions Declaration.
Forms will be sent to you prior to interview and the process is normally completed shortly thereafter. People with clearances from previous employment may be able to carry their clearance across, provided they left that employment within the last 12 months.
Where higher levels of security clearance are needed from the outset then this can, on occasion, delay your start with the company by a few months however, we try to minimise this by starting people on Basic Check clearance wherever possible.
