Fundraiser bears fruit for Kirkham school

17 Nov 2005

The pupils at Pear Tree School in Kirkham are to have a new Multi Sensory Studio, made possible by the fundraising efforts of the BAE Systems Corporate Air Travel team based at Warton.

Pupils visited Warton to collect the cheque for 3,125 and afterwards the group were invited to inspect the facilities.

The children were flying high as they explored the cockpit of the 97 seat BAE 146, which is used to transport employees to and from the companys head office at Farnborough. After seeing both Hawk and Nimrod aircraft take off, the kids got to grips with fire hoses and equipment, supervised by BAE Systems own firemen.

Louise Jackson, Senior Teacher of the lower school said: We are grateful to the BAE Systems team for this donation, which will go towards the new Multi Sensory Studio. The school caters for children between the ages of two and 19. We do get government funding which provides the basics, but the school needs lots of specialist equipment which is crucial for the childrens education and development.

The BAE Systems Corporate Air Travel team have a long-standing relationship with the Pear Tree school having donated nearly 9,000 over a three-year period.

Peter Jones, Head of Corporate Air Travel at Warton said: We raise money every year by organising a Charity Golf day which is loyally supported by Fairhaven Golf Club. Its great to see the kids enjoying themselves here at Warton and we look forward to continuing our relationship with the school."

Jane Salter, Cabin Service and Training Manager added: As a department, we hold a number of annual fundraising initiatives. As well as Pear Tree School we raise funds for other charities, at the moment the team is in the middle of a Great Teddy Bear biscuit bake. The biscuits will be sold to our passengers in aid of Children in Need.
