BAE Systems supported the national Bike 2 Work week earlier this year by encouraging staff to cycle to work and participate in the “4B’s Charity Cycle Ride” which combined with a site collection, raised a total of £1650. The sponsorship money has been equally divided between The Stroke Association and the Chelmsford Employees Charity Trust Fund under the Company’s Charity Challenge scheme.
Over 40 employees in Chelmsford took part in the scheme and were rewarded with a free breakfast. The national event is the UK’s only annual promotion of all kinds of cycling activities, co-ordinated by 20 organisations to promote cycling as a great way to ‘have fun, get fit, feel free!
BAE Systems Integrated System technologies (Insyte) in Chelmsford also hosted “The 4B’s Charity Cycle Ride” with over 15 employees cycling the route from Insyte offices at Eastwood House, to Baddow, Bushy Hill, Bradwell and back – a total of approximately 65 miles.
Steve Bulman, one of the BAE Systems participants, said: "Using a bike where we can, instead of going by car, is one way everyone can contribute to help the environment. Bike 2 Work Week gives us the extra encouragement and it's also a win-win situation as it helps me stay healthy and save money."
