RICHMOND, Va. – The Defense Supply Center has recognized BAE Systems as one of the U.S. government’s best suppliers for successfully meeting the stringent Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) requirements for on-time delivery and product quality during 2005.
BAE Systems received four awards during a June 6 Aviation Supply Chain conference in Richmond from Navy Rear Adm. Mark Heinrich, the commander of the supply center. A gold award – the highest recognition – was presented to the company’s Electronic Warfare business in Nashua, N.H., and its National Security Solutions business in San Diego. Bronze awards were conferred on the company’s Platform Solutions business in Fort Wayne, Ind., and Land and Armaments business in Anniston, Ala.
The Nashua facility provided approximately $4 million in spare parts to the Defense Supply Center in 2005. These parts supported the company’s electronic countermeasures and other products at military depots worldwide.
The San Diego site received the gold award for providing nearly $500,000 worth of spare assemblies to support F-16 avionics testers and B-1 test equipment. That site has received the top recognition for 13 consecutive years.
Fort Wayne, a recipient of a bronze award, provided approximately $22 million in spare parts for aircraft engine controls in 2005.
Land and Armaments’ spares and services unit, located at Anniston, Ala., supplied more than 600 different weapon system repair parts to various DLA locations in support of the company’s tracked armored vehicles. This is the fifth year that the Anniston facility has been recognized as one of DLA’s top suppliers.
The DLA uses a computerized system to track vendor performance and translates it into a numeric score, ranging from zero to 100. To qualify for a gold medal, a contractor must have a score of 100. Those who receive a score of 99.0 to 99.9 earn a silver award. Vendors with scores ranging from 98.0 to 98.9 earn a bronze medal.
