MINNEAPOLIS – BAE Systems has been recognized by the Minnesota Safety Council for exceptional workplace safety performance in 2005. The company received the Council’s Award of Honor for the ninth consecutive year.
“BAE Systems’ success demonstrates what can be achieved when employers and employees value safety and take personal responsibility for it,” said Governor Tim Pawlenty.
”We’re committed to maintaining a safe work environment for our employees,” said Gary Mefford, BAE Systems’ safety manager in Minneapolis. “The company has successfully managed that commitment and we’re proud to be recognized by the Minnesota Safety Council.”
The Award of Honor is given to organizations that have made exceptional strides in preventing injuries and illnesses in the workplace.
“On average, nearly 300 Minnesota workers are injured or become ill from job-related causes each day,” said Carol Bufton, president of the Minnesota Safety Council. “Smart employers understand that a commitment to safety contributes to the health of their employees and their bottom line.”
Since 1934, the annual Governor’s Safety Awards have spotlighted Minnesota employers with above average safety records. Participants submit injury information which is compared with state and national data, as well as the entrant’s past performance.
The Minnesota Safety Council, founded in 1928, is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in Minnesota by preventing accidents.
