BAE Systems is supporting the national Bike 2 Work Week (19 -23 June) by encouraging employees that cycle to work and rewarding them with a free breakfast.
Over 15 employees in Chelmsford are taking part in the scheme and are joined by other BAE Systems’ sites around the UK in supporting the national event. BAE Systems is the premier transatlantic defence and aerospace company delivering a full range of products and services for air, land and naval forces, as well as advanced electronics, information technology solutions and customer support services. With 86,000 employees worldwide, BAE Systems’ sales exceeded GB£15.4 billion (US$28 billion) in 2005.
Bike 2 Work Week is the UK’s only annual promotion of all kinds of cycling activities, co-ordinated by 20 organisations to promote cycling as a great way to ‘have fun, get fit, feel free!’
BAE Systems Integrated System Technologies (Insyte) in Chelmsford also hosted “The 4B’s Charity Cycle Ride” on Friday 23 June for Insyte employees. Over 15 employees cycled the route from Insyte offices at Eastwood House, to Baddow, Bushy Hill, Bradwell and back – a total of approximately 65 miles. All employees obtained sponsorship which will be equally divided between The Stroke Association and the Chelmsford Employees Charity Trust Fund under the company’s Charity Challenge scheme.
Steve Bulman, one of the BAE Systems participants, said: "Using a bike where we can, instead of going by car is one way everyone can contribute to help the environment. Bike 2 Work Week gives us the extra encouragement and it's also a win-win situation as it helps me stay healthy and I save money."
