BAE Systems has been shortlisted for the Annual Company of the Year Awards 2006 in the category of Corporate Responsibility for its part in the Amazon Ferry Project.
The Awards, organised by Business XL, take place in London on 3 July 2006. Along with Fonebak PLC, G A Pindar & Son Ltd and Urban Splash, BAE Systems will be competing for the award which best demonstrates the companys firm commitment to corporate social responsibility. The winner of each award on the night is also put forward for the ultimate award Business of the Year 2006.
Murray Easton, managing director for the BAE Systems Submarines, said: BAE Systems cannot solely take the credit for The Amazon Ferry Project, which has also inspired schoolchildren and members of our community to actively participate in a project which will deliver medical assistance for up to a million people. Over the next 40 years, this vessel will deliver vital medical services to communities living in remote and hard to reach areas of the Amazon basin. It can be visited by over 1,000 people on one day alone.
With this ship BAE Systems, the Vine Trust Charity and the local community should be proud of their joint contribution towards reducing the global statistic where a child dies every three seconds.
