Great images can bring a brand to life, connecting to your audiences
in a direct way that goes beyond words. Images used must support the
BAE Systems values of high performance, customers, people, partnering, and innovation and technology.

Make sure that the imagery you use:
- Is relevant. Avoid using conceptual or abstract imagery.
- Includes people if possible.
- Is sympathetic to cultural differences.
- Showcases the latest technology.
- Is, or appears to be, taken in natural light, not using coloured gels.
- Does not appear staged.
- Avoids unnecessary borders around images.

People

Our people are at the heart of our company, our strategy and our values, so include people where possible. Real people and places will convey the breadth of our business while remaining sympathetic to cultural differences.

BAE Systems' Model Release forms must be signed by all individuals whose photos are being taken for internal or external publicity and communications purposes, prior to or at the time of the photo shoot. These must be retained on file.

Model release forms for children (aged 16 and under) must be signed by each child's parent/guardian (through the relevant school) in advance of photo shoots. A group model release form, individual model release form and school model release form are available to download for use in the UK. The only exception is for conferences or other large gatherings where it is impractcal to obtain release forms due to the large number of attendees. In this instance please add a disclaimer to the appropriate invitations or materials, notifying attendees that their photograph may be taken during the course of the event, and that by attending they authorise use of that imagery. Local legal departments can advise on the form of wording for use outside of the UK.

Visualisations and computer generated images

These can be used on occasion as long as they follow the same rules for photography.

BAE Systems Image Bank

The latest approved imagery can be accessed at the BAE Systems Image Bank.

Combining images

Photomontaging is not allowed as a way of combining available imagery to 'improve it' or to make it more 'interesting.' Use the underlying grid to be found on materials to organise imagery. Do not produce single image photomontages using vignettes, drop shadows, or any other similar techniques. Occasionally there is a need to show an image using a photomontage technique. This is reserved only for product and platform imagery where the product perhaps exists only as a rendered image; for the description of a battlescene; or when showing technology/communication relationship between elements. Keep the feel as direct and clean as possible.

For more information

The above information is only a summary of the Brand Standards in this area. Please download the relevant Brand Standards section and any templates or files from the Downloads box on this page. All internal or external communications require sign-off prior to production by your Brand Champion - you will need to allow enough time for this to take place. Any further questions should also be directed to your Brand Champion. Find their details on Managing
