Joint Tactical Radio System 2A

BAE Systems was an equal-partner member of the four-party Modular Software Radio Consortium (MSRC) and Articles of Collaboration for the Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) Step 2A and 2Ax architecture development and prototyping phases.

We accomplished:

  • Definition of software architecture to be developed and validated as the Software Communications Architecture (SCA). The SCA forms the basis for future DoD programmable radio awards and establishes standards for Government and commercial software radios.
  • Development and validation of an open-standard SCA, development of a structured hardware and software framework, and validation of the framework through prototype testing. BAE Systems developed and demonstrated its own SCA-compliant core framework running on its own 2-MHz-to-2-GHz JTRS prototype radio.
  • Demonstration of prototype radio interoperability with a legacy radio and a JTRS-compliant radio developed independently by another consortium member.

JTRS 2A Program Highlights:

  • Under this contract, we successfully developed, fabricated, and demonstrated a fully SCA-compliant prototype four-channel programmable radio using the BAE Systems-developed core framework.
  • This radio achieved interoperability with another consortium members' prototype in a demonstration to the JTRS JPO at the conclusion of the JTRS 2A contract.
  • Thereafter, the 2Ax program continued to release enhancements and updates to the SCA.
