Logistics services and field engineering

Our Mission: To provide affordable engineering technical services and comprehensive lifetime support solutions to meet our customers' current and future requirements.

BAE Systems' commitment to support its products throughout their life cycle is met by the logistics services and field engineering group. During the product design and development stages, field engineers perform engineering tasks, assimilate product knowledge, and influence equipment supportability. After the equipment is fielded, these engineers provide customer feedback and assess product performance in operational environments for the purpose of influencing future design requirements. Field engineers provide both contractor maintenance services and contractor engineering technical services.

Services Provided:

Logistics Services:

  • Lean logistics
  • Direct vendor delivery
  • Performance-based logistics
  • Modernization through spares
  • Contract logistics support
  • Prime vendor services
  • Virtual prime vendor
  • Supply-chain management
  • Configuration management/data management
  • Diminishing manufacturing sources/material shortages planning
  • Parts obsolescence management
  • Asset management
  • Spares positioning
  • Formal and on-the-job training
  • Computer-based training
  • Web-based training
  • Interactive electronic technical manuals
  • Supportability management
  • Life cycle modeling
  • Cost trade-off analysis
  • Support concept development
  • Technical publications development
  • Depot repair facilities

Engineering Support and Services:

During product design, development, and integration phases, BAE Systems field engineers assigned to perform engineering support assimilate product knowledge while influencing equipment supportability. Engineering support tasks vary and include:

  • Hardware and software design
  • Site surveys
  • System integration and test
  • Electromagnetic interference testing
  • System performance evaluations
  • Field installation and modifications
  • Customer operational test and evaluation
  • Equipment/systems upgrades and modifications
  • Depot-level technical support

Contractor Engineering Technical Services:

Contractor Engineering Technical Services (CETS) transfers product knowledge, enabling customer personnel to become self-sustaining. CETS provides information, instruction, and on-the-job training in the installation, operation, maintenance, and modification of systems and equipment used by customer personnel. Responsibilities include:

  • Organizational: intermediate services
  • On-the-job training
  • Troubleshooting
  • Failure investigation
  • Maintenance planning
  • Technical reports
  • Liaison between customer and company

Contractor Maintenance Services (CMS):

CMS provides partial or full product support services when life cycle cost analysis predicts this approach to be more cost-effective than acquisition of an organic (customer-operated) support system. CMS also provides interim support during the initial deployment of the support system. Customers may forgo the expense of automatic diagnostic test equipment, training programs, technical manuals, and acquisition of maintenance personnel by contracting our field engineers to perform all maintenance functions. Some of the methods used by BAE Systems field engineers to reduce customer support costs include using variations of factory test equipment and modified acceptance test procedures.
