Background
The probability of a large-scale use of wapons of mass destruction has been assessed as declining in the wold but at the same time the risk increases for the use of NBC weapons on a lesser scale. To meet this threat, the Swedish government has designated protection against NBC warfare agents as one area of technology within which Sweden should gain strategic competence. The NBC Reconnaissance Vehicle uses the Patria XA-203S as the vehicular platform and is equipped with NBC reconnaissance systems.
Capability
The vehicle will have, without compromising the collective protection, the following capabilities:
- Point detection of NBC warfare agents, toxic industrial chemicals and radioactive materials
- Standoff detection of chemical warfare agents and toxic industrial chemicals
- Aerosol particle sampling
- Measurement of local meteorological parameters
- Reporting of vehicle position, meteorological and measurement data
- Making of contaminated areas
- Decision support
