MEMS Devices
BAE Systems has over 20 years experience in the design and evaluation of prototype (Micro-Electro Mechanical Systems) MEMS devices, as well as a proven track record in the transfer of devices to full scale commercial manufacture.
Micro and Nano Technology (MNT) offers entirely new methods of manufacture for sensors, actuators and displays which are more cost effective and offer significant advantages over conventionally engineered devices.
BAE Systems Advanced Technology Centre (ATC) offers a comprehensive capability in MEMS to both industry and academia. Providing concept guidance, through to detailed design, fabrication and prototype / product evaluation.
Our History:
The MEMS Devices Group has been involved with MEMS technology since 1982. Devices have been developed that are recognised as world leading, these include the BAE Systems Silicon Gyro which has been successfully transferred to a high volume manufacturing line delivering several million devices per annum into the automotive industry.
The Group has developed devices covering display, inertial, optical, Radio Frequency (RF), aerodynamic, biological, chemical and electromagnetic functionality.
A key strength at BAE Systems is that in-house application teams are formed between application engineers and MEMS fabrication experts, so that each understands a sizeable proportion of the other’s disciplines. Optimised project teams are formed, that can work with customers to give the best technological solution and value.
20+ years Experience, Why Not Use It?
We are now making our design skills and fabrication capability available to commercial customers as part of the UK MNT network. This means YOU can access our wealth of experience gained in successfully developing and commercialising MEMS devices over the last twenty four years.
