BAE Systems Advanced Technology Centre leads the way in defining flexible data fusion solutions that overcome the computational and communication bottlenecks associated with traditional, platform-centric systems. Our information processing and management capabilities enable the accurate flow of information within a fault tolerant network.
Information sources within the battlefield vary from verbal reports through to automated sensors. Our solutions place the human at the centre of the operation, facilitating an unmatched understanding of data trust and dissemination within the modern battle-space, and delivering the information dominance that is required for enhanced situational awareness.
The mathematical foundation and architectural backbone for our information fusion solutions is provided by DDF (Decentralised Data Fusion). DDF does not require a C2 (command and control) centre or communications hub. This allows it to be fault tolerant and does not require each individual sensing unit to be aware of the larger scale system details. We have worked closely with UK government,industrial and academic partners to build on the DDF foundations, providing higher levels of information fusion and allowing decision makers to gain a common understanding of the unfolding situation in their present environment.
Our systems have been trialled and demonstrated in a variety of scenarios including airborne applications for uninhabited air vehicles, security applications across a network of CCTV cameras, and in land environments encapsulating unattended ground sensor and camera networks.
While the primary application of our solutions is to deliver enhanced military capability, significant value has been achieved by applying them to a variety of industries and markets ranging from retail security to heavy engineering.
