Engineering excellence into your product

The Advanced Technology Centre provides an integrated mechanical design, simulation, prototyping and manufacturing service. The techniques we use de-risk development and delivery, ensuring your product meets quality, reliability and cost targets. As well as offering services individually,we are able to take a program from conception to completion, delivering a turnkey product.

Our customers range from small enterprises to multi-national organisations, engaging us in the design and manufacture of special purpose structures and mechanisms for deployment in a wide range of operating environments. We operate as an integral part of our customers’
delivery team through product development, qualification and initial manufacture to ensure the shared success of delivering market leading solutions. Typical applications include aerospace equipment, antennas, stabilised platforms, test rigs, robot attachments, optical equipment and microwave components.
Delivering great products starts with developing an accurate understanding of requirements. We work alongside our customers to develop robust product specification standards or to review existing product designs to create accurate and unambiguous definitions of systems and ensure that clarity of design is flowed throughout the supply chain. Using appropriate measures and processes we ensure that products are fit for use and meet environmental specifications.
Working in a concurrent engineering environment, we develop optimised product solutions for diverse operating conditions, such as wind loading, vibration and shock. Our capabilities in 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD), electromagnetic modelling, Finite Element (FE) structural and thermal analysis simulation, enable the performance of our customers’ new products, existing designs or product upgrades to be simulated, tested and optimised without the time and cost incurred using physical testing or committing to manufacture with unknown product risk.

Turning design concepts into physical reality, we use rapid prototyping machines to support visualisation of products in metal or plastic, providing a risk reduction activity prior to commitment to volume manufacture. We offer machining services using state-of-the-art Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machines for the manufacture of material prototypes and low to medium volume production of components – enabling customers to assess ease of assembly and maintenance, evaluate product operation and optimise the design to manufacture process.

Once in the production cycle, our Process Improvement service delivers continued product confidence and assurance through the introduction of systematic process controls. Working in partnership with the customer, our experts will introduce and implement tools and techniques to ensure products can be manufactured to specification, delivered on time and to budget, whilst ensuring product quality and reliability in service – reducing the risk and cost of product failure throughout its lifecycle and the subsequent cost of ownership.
