Situational awareness (SA) is a mental tool used by human beings who command complex situations or control complex systems, enabling them to make appropriate decisions and take effective actions.
SA consists of their own mental representations of the present work situation and its implications for their goals and tasks. In effect, it is their ability at any moment to answer such questions as: What is happening? Why is it happening? What will happen next? What does it mean in terms of my goals? What can I do about it?
